Amy F. Leveen, President Amy Leveen Associates
Amy Leveen began working as an independent consultant in February 1993. She has worked in direct response fundraising for over twenty-three years, and has extensive experience in: donor acquisition programs, donor development, membership renewal, telemarketing, monthly giving and the use of toll-free telephone numbers and the internet for membership development and fundraising. She has experience in auditing and reviewing the management and implementation of direct mail programs and the structure of development departments. She is also experienced in helping organizations set up and implement list maintenance, cashiering and other systems to support direct response programs.
In the summer of 1985 Ms. Leveen joined the staff of Amnesty International USA. As Deputy Director of Development, Ms. Leveen was responsible for all aspects of the direct mail program, as well as the administrative needs of the Development Unit. During her seven and one-half years at Amnesty, its direct mail income grew from $5 million per year to more than $19 million and its membership base grew from 125,000 to 380,000. Ms. Leveen began her fundraising career at Circle Repertory Company, where she researched and made recommendations for setting up a computer system and data base for the donor records. In 1981, following the completion of this project, Ms. Leveen joined Sanky Perlowin Associates. There she was privileged to learn the fundamentals of direct mail from Sanky Perlowin, and to work on campaigns for a range of clients. In 1984 Ms. Leveen joined the development staff of the Joffrey Ballet, where she designed and implemented the first telemarketing campaign to solicit contributions from ticket subscribers.
Ms. Leveen is a past president of the Direct Mail Fundraisers Association, past member of the board of the Greater New York Chapter AFP where she is on the National Philanthropy Day and Professional Advancement. She is also a member of The Association of Direct Response Fundraising Counsel.
She was graduated from SUNY Binghamton in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater History. For seven years prior to entering the fundraising profession she worked as a professional stage manager.
